Black Friday: Best Excuses to Avoid the Mall This Year

If you’re lucky enough to have black Friday off from work this year, don’t waste the whole day at the mall. Why would you want to fight some old lady for the last half-price Blue Ray player on the shelf? There are far more productive things you could be doing without risking injury or death this upcoming Friday, plus you’ll get to sleep in. But if you’re drawing a blank on fun things to do when you actually have a week day off from work, then check out my list of ideas below.

1. Go ice-skating. The weather has started to get chilly with Christmas just around the corner, so it’s time to lace up those old skates and head to your local rink. Even if you’re terrible, everyone will be out shopping so you’ll have the rink to yourself. Bring some friends and make sure to fill you canteen with some hot chocolate.

2. Spend the day with your son or daughter, or niece or nephew. How often do you have the whole day to devote to these little ones. So why not spend the day with them? You can something simple like take them to a movie and they’ll love you for it.

3. Have an early cocktail hour with your friends. Load up on plenty of appetizers, or just re-heat some of those Thanksgiving leftovers. Invite your friends over at about two o’clock and spend the day drinking martinis and chatting. It’s not something you can do very often these days, so take advantage of it.

4. Put up your Christmas tree. This may be a little early for some of you, but you’ve already been kidnapped by the Christmas spirit, then black Friday may be the perfect opportunity for you to throw up that tree.

5. Stay home and watch movies or some live tv online. How often do you get the chance to be lazy anymore? If you’re like most of us, you work forty hours plus a week, so you deserve a break. Sleep in and just lay about the house all day long and you definitely won’t regret missing the shopping deals.

6. Work on your car. If you have a knack for mechanics, why not spend the day tinkering around your car and making all of the updates and repairs you’ve been avoiding lately. Change the oil, fix the wipers and maybe install those new HID lights you bought months ago.

Skip the shopping this year and get some rest and relaxation. You did just eat an enormous meal yesterday and your stomach probably can’t handle too much running around.
