Future of French Football

Two years, two long years if not more than the French football is going through a major crisis. After completely missing Euro 2008 and the elimination in the first round, Team France reiterated its mistakes during the World Cup 2010. It is now time to change, modify certain institutions, and to replace some people to regain self-esteem seems to gradually disappear in favor of a more complete indifference. People seem to forget the values that we must respect love and respect for the blue shirt … its better sometimes to turn the page, forget and forge ahead. Since the debacle in South Africa, it should be in the French football that words like solidarity, Change, future … But all this is utopia. It is now two weeks since the French team is eliminated, but instead of making a difference in a positive direction, there were only low blows that conflict, and that elements which only destroy already tarnished image of French football. Conflicts of interest are sometimes the cause, revenge also in some cases, but why do these people think they are not just for their “passion, love of football. Since the elimination of the Blues, we are seeing things aberrant, and nobody seems to react to stop this charade.

On June 30, 2010, Raymond Domenech and Jean Pierre Escalettes have been received by National Assembly deputies to a meeting in camera, which aimed to understand what happened in South Africa. Pascal Deguilhems, member of the Dordogne, say at the meeting: “We are dismayed that our Committee on Cultural Affairs and Education is in the process of hearing the president of the FFF and the coach of Team France. Has anyone lost the sense of proportion? You said Mr Escalettes feel uncomfortable. “The images we can see a few hours later are striking. The coach and the president of the FFF are both sitting MPs face, visibly sad and ill at ease. By viewing these images, any observer has the impression of a trial, only two perpetrators face the judges. Despite the errors that may have been committing these two protagonists, they really deserve this? Is it normal that you mix politics with sports? Pascal Deguilhems continue also during the hearing: “Is it really the duty of politicians to hear you at this time, returning from a World Cup inglorious for Team France? After the Rome Olympics, where France did not shine, officials at the time had not been interviewed but General de Gaulle had decided to drive a sports revival in France, by strengthening all levels preparation. But this hearing is not the only example that we can give on this new phenomenon. Before the World Cup, Rama Yade, secretary of state for sport criticizes the management of the FFF in the Housing Team France.

On June 24, 2010, two days after removal of the Blues, Roselyne Bachelot, Minister for Sports will declare the resignation of Jean Pierre Escalettes is “inevitable,” Nicolas Sarkozy will Thierry Henry at the Elysee Palace on his return from South Africa. This obsession of politicians to meddle in sports it is legitimate; it does not serve the team in France instead of serving…? The question deserves to be asked. Turn the page, looking forward, these words should always go back. On July 2, 2010, the Federal Council of the Federation took place and it would create a disruption at that institution. In addition to the resignation of Jean Pierre Escalettes, the Federal Council as a whole was much anticipated but it did not happen. Members of the latter preferred to defer all decisions to a later date. Why did they prefer to remain in uncertainty and thus delaying the recovery process? Whatever their decision, they would have to take responsibility and resign or stay, but the only thing they have done is stay in the unknown and make it impossible for the opportunity to advance and progress in logic improve things.

This logic also seems to be unhealthy shared by some footballing personalities. Why two weeks after the removal of Team France, some people continue to criticize, attack? Lilian Thuram, for example, says that one should never see Patrice Evra wear the blue jersey. Such statements only serve to add a new scandal in an institution that really does not need this right now. This is understandable during the World Cup, but two weeks after the removal of blue, it seems that this is necessary anymore and that Lizarazu, Leboeuf … should stop showing their resentment to the idea of joining the staff of Laurent Blanc is no stranger. On the evening of June 22, 2010, Jean Pierre Escalettes said that the institution was blue “a sinking ship.” He was not wrong, and should consider now to save it before it sinks completely. Oscar Wilde was wondering “how could anyone say that man is a rational animal. His question seems quite legitimate in some cases.
