Shorty Helmets …My Stylish Kind of Protection

Shorty helmets can also be known as ‘half-helmets’. This is because they don’t cover the whole face or neck area. They’ve got more of a normal style and are not really modern in appearance. The outer layer of the helmet is made of fiberglass. This is a lightweight material which is easy on the rider’s neck and head, meaning they can wear the helmet for longer hours. Almost all of the time, these sort of helmets come with a screw-on visor. Depending on the weather, the helmet is also made with an absorbent interior so that the inside doesn’t get wet.
A Shorty helmet is like wearing a beanie when you were a kid. When you ride a motorcycle something eventually occurs, hopefully nothing more major than dropping your bike. A damaged arm or leg you will survive.

Other designs come with a top vent so the head does not become too hot. A second name for the buckles used to take the helmet on and off is known as, D-ring closure. The top-end brands also come with soft touch leather fabrics. They do not add many options, but it’s a step up from the typical fiberglass shell.

A full face motorcycle helmet is the best protection for your head available. They are usually validated not only by the DOT ( Department of transport ), but the Snell Institute too.
In addition a full face helmet protects your face better from waste from the road that might be going towards your face. A bonus for the full face helmet is that it blocks out the foul odors of the towns. Wearing a full face motorcycle helmet as many of those who have racing bikes wear, doesn’t mean that you must increase your speed or take nonessential risks .
To get the right measurement of your head, you must wrap a bit of measuring tape around your head until it is about a half-inch above your eyebrows. They have different styles like ; quick release, metal quick release, fast hook, fast disconnect and side release buckles.

There are plenty of sub styles of half helmets available. The retro style is just a round shell with no visor. Simply a shell and chin straps. There are some retro style half helmets having a patch of leather over where the ear would slot in the chin strap to supply some heat to the rider on cool nights or days.

Shaped like the retro, with a little extension of the shell in the back, and an everlasting visor shaped into the shell, these supply a cushty fit also. The beanie/shorty style of half helmets are very like the jockey/polo style half helmet, with the exception that the visor is removable. These can also have neck heaters optionally, and also have face shield visors that flip up snapped into place. The beanie/shorty style is the most popular among the half helmet categories.

Regardless of what kind of helmet, full or shorty helmets, you choose to get, comfort and durability is important. This is extremely important and should not be treated lightly when selecting which helmet is the best fit. Bike helmets come in several different sizes and styles. It’s all a matter of picking the one that is best for you.
