Get gorgeous this summer in only Rs 1000

The style this summer is a bit of a throwback to the 1980’s, leaving behind all the bad and bringing back the good. From bold, beautiful plaids in purples and browns, to spangle dangles jewelery, to chunky footwear, fashions for spring/summer 2009 have a lot to say. Its time to flatter your well toned body and shed those heavy jackets and ‘oh not so sexy’ jumpers and sweaters.

A splash of colours
The colours of this summer are vibrant on one hand and classic on another. Turquoise is the latest shade of blue and bright Fuchsia this season’s hottest pink. Combine Fuchsia with Turquoise and you have a show stopper of an ensemble. White maintains its hold as a staple colour of spring and summer and like they say: “you can never go wrong with white”. For those who prefer darker shades, brown is the new black of the season. Coming in the middle of two colour extremes is purple.

Prints: Big and bold
Prints this season will be big and bold. From paisleys to stripes, from polkas to checks, take that plunge and flaunt the prints. Plaids are making a noise, too. Everything from this summer’s tube tops to next winter’s wool coat can be had in plaid. Like their other cousins in the print scene, the bigger the better, with larger checks winning over smaller ones.

Fashion trends: its pegged jeans and bubble hem all the way
This spring summer’s style collection is like watching dirty dancing returns or one of Kyle Minouge’s breakthrough videos. Don’t even get close to those apple bottom/bell bottom/boot fit pair of denims. The skinny pairs are the only ones to wear. Straight fit will also work. Pegged jeans are even making a come-back, for those who don’t care for the stick-legged look.

Dresses and skirts are sporting ‘bubble hems’–wide bands of elastic that hug the thighs allowing for the rest of the skirt to drape above. Balloon skirts and balloon dresses continue to reign this season. The best news is that this summer the collection in our very own Janpath, Sarojini Nagar and GK M block market is hip and they totally fit into the fashion requirements of the season.

Here is a quick way to get ready this season looking stunning without burning a big hole in your pocket. A few pointers adorn yourself is just Rs 1,000:

• Pick up that printed cotton tube top from Sarojini Nagar worth Rs 175. Of course they will ask for about Rs 450, however SN, is the hagglers paradise.
• The electric blue balloon skirt with the wide elastic band, camouflage those love handles will make a fine combination with the tube top. The cost of this can’t go above Rs 200.
• Pick up an evergreen jhola from Janpath for Rs 175 and wear it across your chest.
• Either pick up flat slippers in a bright yellow from GK-M block market or a nice white front closed heels for Rs 300.
• To complete the ensemble pick up the electric blue danglers for Rs 75 and two bright wooden bangles for Rs 75 each.

So beat the heat this summer and rock the joint! And don’t forget the sun block.
