Hip Hop Clothing Movement

Hip Hop Clothing remains a huge part of American Fashion that continues to evolve and remain strong. Ever since hip hop clothing went mainstream in the 1980′s, we have experienced almost three decades of urban fashion powered by old school hip hop brands such as Adidas, Karl Kani, Kangol, and Pro keds to more recent clothing brands like Akademiks, Apple Bottom, Baby Phat and Rocawear. During this period we have seen urban fashion grow from being primarily a style associated with young inner city African Americans to being adopted by all cultures and becoming a worldwide fashion movement.  Hip hop clothing fashion has become a multi-million dollar industry that some experts believed was going away years ago but as we look around today only seems to be here to stay.

The ability to create and market your own clothing line has never been as easy and common than it is today. Within the last decade and a half there has been an explosion of music artists, fashion designers, online clothing stores and just about anyone else come out with their own clothing labels in an attempt to capitalize on what they hope will be the next big brand like Rocawear or Baby Phat.  With consumers always seeking to satisfy their fashion craves, we can only expect to see hip hop clothing continue to be transformed into more fashionable attire that can be worn by everyone, everywhere. As every generation seeks to establish their own identity, you can also see hip hop fashion designers being more bold and outrageous in creating things that have not been done before. Some say ” The best way to see into the future is to look at the past” but one thing is for sure “Keep your eyes and ears close to the street”.

Music and music videos play a big role in hip hop fashion by allowing music stars like Beyonce, Eminem, Jay Z and many more use their star power to guide hip hop into new paths through their respected brands. But these days it seems like every rapper /singer has or wants their own clothing line, which sometimes doesn’t always pan out but only makes sense since they’re always performing on stage in front of fans. Many of these stars have moved beyond just clothing and accessories by offering almost anything you can imagine like lingerie, hand bags, shoes, jewelry and much more. Hip Hop Fashion has grown so much since the 1980′s that it is almost unbelievable. But the more you see change, the more it stays the same. Some thing as simple as a white tee, jeans, white Nikes and a gold chain are still good today as it was 20 years ago.

The hip hop clothing movement or “streetwear” will continue to prosper well into the next decade. People tend to forget that this type of attire was formed from the inner city streets of America and is a form of expression and a part of life. You can drive through a big city like “Chicago” and go to any neighborhood and you will find hip hop clothing. You can surf the net and visit top hip hop clothing stores like KingUvdaStreet Urban Clothing and find urban clothes. Nothing is forever but one thing is for sure: Urban clothing is here to stay.
