 The Lacoste brand has long since been synonymous with class and great style.  Whether it’s the classic short sleeved summer polo or the long sleeve cotton Lacoste polos ideal for the winter months, fans of the men’s fashion leader remain loyal from one generation to the next.

 Never one to follow the trends, this iconic brand prefers to define the trends.  From the recognizable logo on its casual lines to the fashion runways, there’s simply no mistaking one of the world’s most loved clothing brands.  Most recently, Lacoste was named the official outfitter of the 2010 Australian Open.  This, of course, comes as little surprise since the Lacoste dynasty was borne on the tennis court and revolutionized the way companies would forever market their brands.  One of the first major companies to showcase its brand and logo on the outside of its garments, the world of both men and women’s fashion hasn’t been the same since.  What began as a line of sporting clothes for men, and particularly, tennis clothing in 1933 has evolved into a global conglomerate that offers men and women extensive collections of casual and dress clothing, perfumes, sunglasses, trainers and of course, the classic Lacoste polo.  

Founded by Rene Lacoste and incorporating a revolutionary fabric in the mid-1930s and called “jersey petit pique”, the short sleeved, ribbed collared shirt that was a bit shorter than traditional men’s shirts were for that time, the Lacoste polo was created.  During this timeframe, men wore long sleeve cotton shirts with a traditional button down style.  Uncomfortable, especially on the tennis court, Lacoste knew a more comfortable alternative existed.  The now-famous alligator Izod continues to be one of the most purchased men’s clothing garment and is no longer exclusive to the tennis courts.  Rene Lacoste soon discovered he was a formidable opponent not only on the tennis courts, but the world of casual fashion too.  After having mastered the sport, Lacoste set his sights on redefining comfort.

As with most every other company around the globe, Lacoste’s website was unveiled in the summer of 2002.  For more than seventy years, the Lacoste polo has been the signature garment for both men and women, is sold in more than 100 countries in thousands of retailers and clothing chains and offers more than seven hundred exclusive Lacoste retail stores.  The brand continues raise the bar and move forward, each season revealing the same quality and attention to detail as the season before, but with fresh color combinations and styles.  Few design companies can meet the standard of quality that was defined by one man’s quest to factor comfort into the tennis garment equation.  His name, pride in producing the best and vision for comfortable and affordable clothing lives on.
