Insane Clown Posse Rocking The Hip Hop Scene

One of the funkiest hip hop duos to have emerged from the Detroit underground hip hop scene, Insane Clown Posse (ICP) is known for its supernatural themes and incredibly energetic live performances.

ICP was formed by two underground hip hop artists Joseph Bruce and Joseph Utsler. They usually perform under the personas of two wicked and wacky clowns named Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope. ICP is quite different from most other hip hop artists who have managed to emerge from the underground hip hop scene of Detroit, Michigan. The band has managed to come up with its own style of hardcore hip hop known as horrorcore.

Insane Clown Posse performs songs that contain supernatural and horror themed lyrics. The group first started to perform these types of songs to carve a niche for their own in the highly competitive underground hip hop scene, but slowly they managed to create their own style of hip hop with horror and supernatural being the core themes.

The band has been virtually shunned by the mainstream media due to its wacky supernatural themes, but it has managed to gain considerable attention in the underground scene. Without the help of television medium and print medium and without any major name back it up, the band has managed to produce and release more than 23 albums, most of which have become quite popular with underground hip hop fans not only in Detroit, but all over the US and Canada. The band has managed to sell more than 6.5 million copies of their albums so far, which is quite a considerable feat to say the least.

The albums of Insane Clown Posse regularly focus on the Dark Carnival, a fictional mythological series wherein souls, after death, are sent to a limbo in the afterlife and waiting to be sent into the heaven or hell based on their individual actions and their consequences. The singers of the band often try to preach the fans about the right way of doing things and ask them to stop doing evil things before they are all consumed by the big end. This theme has managed to gain considerable attraction and the fans of the band, who are affectionately referred to as Juggalos, just love to hear songs based on this theme.

The live performances of Insane Clown Posse are known for their over the top performances and crazy on stage acts. Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope love to spray Faygo Pop, a very popular soft drink from Michigan, onto the crowd. They are known for spraying, on average, hundreds of liters of this soft drink during their live concerts.

Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope have had a stint with professional wrestling. They have been associated with popular professional wrestling companies like ECW, WWF, WCW, and NWA Total Nonstop Action. They even formed their own pro wrestling federation called the Juggalo Championship Wrestling. The Insane Clown Posse duo has also starred in two feature films namely Big Money Hustlas and Big Money Rustlas.
